Choice of Program:


Preferred Program: Postgraduate Diploma in Energy Studies (PGD, PES)

Admission Requirements
Applicants for PGD programme must have

  1. First degree with a First Class, Second class Upper, Second class Lower, Third Class or Pass may be eligible; or
  2. Have a Higher Diploma in the relevant field of study; or
  3. Have special knowledge and considerable experience in his/her area of interest; and
  4. Have, at least, G.C.E. ‘O’ Level/SSSCE/WASSCE passes in English Language and Mathematics

 

Graduation Requirements

A candidate for the PGD degree must satisfy the following requirements for graduation:

  1. Pass all core courses and seminars taken.
  2. Pass project presentation if mandatory.
  3. Must have passed at least 24 units of core course
  4. Must have CGPA of not less than 2.50

Preferred Program: MSC Petroleum, Energy Economics and Management

Admission Requirements

  1. Applicants for direct entry into the MSc programme must:
  2. Have obtained a good first degree (at least, a First class or Second Class Upper) in an appropriate field of study from a recognized academic institution.
  3. Submit an official transcript of academic records.
  4. Submit, at least, two reference reports, one of which must be from a former lecturer.
  5. Submit a pre-proposal of 2-3 pages on the intended area of study, including references.
  6. Have Second Class Lower with at least five years of industry experience for candidate with a lower grade as specified in (i) above; but must pass written entrance examination and/or an oral interview as required.

 

Graduation Requirements

A successful MSc Students, who wish to progress to MSc. With thesis, may progress to the second year after having satisfied the following conditions:

  1. Completed all core courses required at the master's level.
  2. Obtained a CGPA of 3.0 or greater. Defend and pass final MSc thesis before an examining panel.
  3. Must have passed minimum of 36 credit units

For candidates who desire MSc without thesis, the following requirements must be satisfied before graduation.

  1. Obtained a CGPA of 3.0 (C) or greater.
  2. Passed research methods with a minimum grade of 60%
  3. Must have passed minimum of 27 credit units

Preferred Program: PhD in Petroleum and Energy Studies - PhD (PES)

Admission Requirements

Applicants for direct entry into the PhD programme

  1. For a thesis master’s degree in petroleum and Energy Studies, Social Sciences, Economics, Business, Engineering, or related fields.
  2. Non-research master’s degree in related areas with CGPA of 3.5 or greater, with not more than one grade of C and B or greater in Research Methods.

 

Progression, Retention And Graduation Requirements

A successful applicant will be offered probationary admission as a Postgraduate Research Student (PRS) for the first year. Students may progress to the second year after having satisfied the following conditions:

  1. Completed all courses required in the first year.
  2. Obtained a CGPA of 3.0 or greater.
  3. Successfully defended a final research proposal before the school examining panel.

A candidate for the PhD degree must satisfy the following requirements for graduation:

  1. Pass all courses and seminars that must be taken at not less than 3.0 CGPA.
  2. Pass the oral thesis examination (viva voce).
  3. Publish two refereed journal articles related to thesis
